Nursery School Transformation – Colchester, Essex
484m² Artificial Grass Installation Completed in Just Six Days
The Easigrass Essex & Herts team recently completed a major transformation for a nursery school near Colchester, creating a colourful, practical and inviting outdoor environment for the children to enjoy throughout the year.
Covering approximately 484m², this was a substantial installation requiring significant groundwork, careful planning and a full team effort to complete the project within just six days.
The Challenge
The existing outdoor areas were tired, uneven and predominantly made up of worn natural ground and hard-standing surfaces. For a busy nursery environment, the client wanted to create an outdoor space that looked fantastic while providing a more practical, low-maintenance area suitable for regular use by the children.
Due to the size of the project and the amount of groundwork required, this was far more than simply laying artificial grass.
Our installation team used diggers and dumpers to prepare the site and move the large quantities of materials required. In total, approximately 30 tonnes of MOT Type 1 and 8 tonnes of granite dust were used to construct and prepare the sub-base before the artificial grass could be installed.

Creating Something Different
One of the standout features of the project was the combination of two different Easigrass products.
The main areas were installed using Easi-Chelsea artificial grass, creating the appearance of a fresh, natural green lawn across the nursery grounds.
To give the nursery something more distinctive, Easi-Wentworth in purple was incorporated into the design to create a striking children’s activity track.
The contrast between the green and purple surfaces has completely changed the appearance of the outdoor area and created a feature that is both practical and visually engaging for the children.
From Groundworks to Finished Garden
With 484m² to transform, the logistics were an important part of the project. Our team carried out the excavation, ground preparation, installation of the sub-base and final preparation before carefully fitting and finishing the artificial grass.
The project involved:
- 484m² total installation area
- Easi-Chelsea artificial grass
- Purple Easi-Wentworth artificial grass
- 30 tonnes of MOT Type 1
- 8 tonnes of granite dust
- Diggers and dumpers for excavation and material movement
- Extensive ground preparation and edging
- Bespoke purple activity-track design
- Six-day installation programme
The result is a dramatic transformation.
What was previously a tired and difficult-to-maintain outside space is now a smart, colourful and welcoming environment that can be enjoyed by the nursery and its children throughout the year.

A Fantastic Result for the Nursery
The finished photographs really demonstrate the difference.
The Easi-Chelsea provides a consistent green surface around the buildings, pathways, play areas and trees, while the purple Easi-Wentworth track creates a fantastic focal point in the main play area.
Most importantly, the client was extremely happy with the completed project and the transformation achieved by the Easigrass Essex & Herts team.
Completing a project of this scale in only six days was also a great team effort, particularly considering the amount of excavation, preparation and material movement involved.
